Milford Amateur Radio Club (MARC)

Little Miami - Milford

Little Miami Valley

Welcome to our club website. We hope you find this website useful and if you have any suggestions about making it better please contact me.

MARC is an ARRL Special Service Club located in Milford, Ohio. Milford is about 15 miles northeast of Cincinnati. Please see "Club Info" for more information about the club. We invite visitors to our club meetings and welcome any comments you may have.

The Comment section after each post and the reply section at the bottom of the page have not been working. Please use the "Contact Us" tab (top) to leave a comment.

I've recently updated the Calendar to the right, and the "Club Info" section which had not been updated in a while. The Photo section does have a problem that I will be looking at.

MARC Field Day

Posted by k8ji on June 24th, 2006

I’m a little late getting this posted on the website, but Field Day is this weekend at Barb and Bill Steward’s house. We’d like to thank them again for offering their place for this years event.

Field Day starts at 2:00 PM Saturday and lasts for 24 hours. You can come out and operate, log or join in the conversation of friends. Everyone is welcome to attend. This is your chance to talk to different amateur radio operators on the air. You do not have to have a license to talk. We have control operators that monitor the three different stations (3A) that we have this year.

Although, I am currently working, I look forward to seeing you out there.

Visitor Tracking - Geolocation software

Posted by k8ji on June 19th, 2006

Look at the new application!

Check out the link on the right column (top) under Visitor Information. When you click on that link, it displays, for example: Flag of Ukraine [06.19.2006 16:41], Ukraine - Kiev. The server side software uses a MySQL database and loads a google map with the locations marked of the last visitors. You can move the map around, zoom in/out, etc., for additional viewing. The developer, Johannes Lietz Dadabase.de put together an excellent application of geoip.

  • Stores geo-ip information with country, ISO country code, city name, latitude and longitude
  • Google maps integration: shows our visitors’ locations on world map

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

In computing, geolocation software is used to deduce the geolocation (geographic location) of the other party, for example on the internet. Geolocation software is used for example to limit distribution of certain information to people from certain areas. One simple approach to geolocation is looking at the IP address and determining what country, organization, or user it has been assigned to, and guess the user’s location based on that. Many companies sell IP address geolocation databases that can also locate the city and the street not just the country of an IP address.

Thanks to Jay Slough, K4ZLE for a Great Program on Propagation!

Posted by k8ji on June 9th, 2006

The program for our June meeting was given by Jay Slough, K4ZLE who returned to our club and give us a great presentation on “Propgation” that was informative and useful. We learned about the different layers in the atmosphere and how they effect radio propogation. We were shown where we are in the 11 year sun spot cycle and why band conditions have been so bad the past couple of years. (See the top left for a couple of propagation indicators)

Jay demonstrated a couple of FREE software packages that are available on the internet. Check out HamCap. I have not been able to find a free version of “Active Beacon Wizard” yet.

MARC Embroidered Shirts Available!

Posted by k8ji on June 6th, 2006

MARC_LOGO.JPGCheck out the MARC logo that is now available. You can have it embroidered on a shirt of your choice or you can order one from Toni’s link here. The reduced price includes the shirt and shipping. The embroidery cost is $12 for the logo on one side and your call and first name on the other side. The above image is from Toni’s machine so it is showing stitch marks that won’t be on your shirt. She can do any color. Fill in the “contact us” form above and she can take care of what you want.

This is the same logo that we gave Jim O’Brian (he showed it on TV that night) at the MARC Birthday Party.
