We will be treated to a wide-ranging presentation that will touch on wars (World War I and II, Vietnam, Afghanistan), equipment (from World War I Sopwith Camels to the B-2 stealth bomber), and soldiers (including Delta Force, “the best of the best”).
With a military career spanning more than three decades, two services, reserve and active components, and years as an enlisted member and senior officer, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Dean Smittle has taken his expertise on the road as a military analyst focusing on the war against terrorism.
U.S. Special Operations Forces
Lecture Synopsis: An in-depth look at our nation’s finest warriors, and their role in the fight against Global Terrorism. The Quite Professionals. The lecture series is dedicated to our soldiers: The Ultimate Weapon. While technological achievements have enabled the United States to attack from the air with great precision, the human element on the ground remains the key to victory. Special Operations, smart people and smart weapons, must meld together to give our great nation the battlefield advantage. Hats off to the brave and heroic efforts of service men and women whose dedication and devotion to duty make our country what it is and will continue to be: THE LAND OF THE FREE.
The cost in lives and personal sacrifice by our fellow country men should remain uppermost in our minds as our great nation faces perhaps the greatest test of national will since the Great War: “The first War of the twenty first century,” Terrorism.
Special Operations Command
A unique and deadly efficient asset in today’s terrorist environment, Special Operations personnel are the elite of our countries warriors. Their, bravery, cunning, and war-fighting skills reflect those of our nations early frontiersmen of 1756, whose valor secured our freedom during the French and Indian War.
Special Operations personnel are conducting more missions, in more places, and under a broader range of conditions than ever before. These missions entail high operational tempos, heavy and unpredictable deployment schedules, personal hardships and, by their very nature, inordinate causalities both in operations and training.
