President’s Message to the Membership, July 2018

Dave Vest, K8DVHello fellow MARC members, welcome to hot steamy season here in the heartland. Hope everyone is taking the right precautions to survive the heat. As you know our hamfest was last month on June 16th and for the first year we moved to the Clermont County Fairgrounds. By all accounts it appears the hamfest was a success with lots of positive comments for those attending. Even now almost a month later Jim, WB8RRR is saying he is still get comments from the street. We have started gathering information on what we can improve for next year as we are already thinking about 2019.

Our next event will be in September for Ohio State Parks on the Air. There should be details about the operation at the July meeting. If you are interested in helping out or attending OSPOTA please let Al or Jack know. Also at our July meeting our guest speaker will be Bill, AJ8B and he will be giving us a entertaining look at DXCC, A Bite at a Time.

For those of you that chase DX such as myself, I hope you were able to put KH1/KH7Z in your log from Baker Island, the first this has been active in over 15 years and most likely will not be active again for similar length of time. I was lucky enough to make contact several times for a ATNO (All Time New One) for me. The week of the 4th also once again had activity for the annual 13 Colonies event, this is a fun and event with plenty of activity and offers a nice certificate for making contacts with one or all of the stations.

Dave, K8DV
