MARC – Cincinnati’s Club For Amateur Radio – 147.345+ (PL 123.0)

President’s Message to the Membership, June 2018

Dave Vest, K8DVIt feels like only yesterday we were ringing in the new year with excitement and anticipation of what 2018 was going to bring us. We are now fast approaching the half way mark in 2018. For MARC meeting attendance has maintained at a good level and we have seen several interesting programs with more on the way for the rest of the year.

June has always been a busy month for MARC and this year is not as hectic as MARC has made the decision not to participate as a club in this year’s ARRL Field Day exercise on June 23 and 24. On the flip side our hamfest planning is well under way and as most have heard we will be moving our show to the Clermont County Fairgrounds in Owensville on June 16 th . Our event will be held in the 4-H exhibit hall which offers air conditioning and lots of indoor space for vendors. We have several tables spoken for already. We are looking for volunteers to help with running the show for parking, fleamarket and in door vendors and need help with testing as well as we already have at least half of dozen that I have heard from planning on taking the test at our hamfest. If you are able to help either on Friday for early setup, Saturday or both please reach out to Jim WB8RRR or myself.

We have lots of NICE prizes lined up again this year and tickets have been printed and flyers have been mailed. We are planning on doing an email blast the first week of June. Ron, AC8MA will once again be running a side raffle of an Yaesu FTM-3200DR 2 meter fusion radio.

Looking at Field Day and although MARC is not participating our club has been invited to participate with QCEN or OHKYIN if interested. QCEN will be hosting their Field Day activities at the Red Cross building and OHKYIN will be hosting a more traditional Field Day at Mitchell Memorial Forest. Please consult their websites for more information.

As Jack, W8TEE said at the May meeting he is looking for pictures with descriptions of member’s ham shack or operating position, this includes mobiles. Also video is OK. In either case show off your station, antenna, operation awards, ham radio collections. Maybe your latest project or latest QSL card. Maybe you have a radio or contact with an interesting story.

As always I hope to see many of you at the upcoming meeting as well the hamfest. Our club is what you make it. Hope you all have a safe and enjoyable summer.

Dave, K8DV
